But it has recently welcomed a bevy of new showrooms, design studios, and architecture firms, too. Many have moved into 500 Harrison Avenue, a building that’s undergone significant renovations since suffering damage from a 2020 water-main break. Now, developer GTI Properties has rebranded the complex as the SoWa Art + Design Center, and—thanks in part to side effects of the biotech boom in the Seaport and Cambridge—this stretch of the South End is starting to feel like the hub of the city’s design community. With over 30 design showrooms and 1,200 brands and product lines, a visit to Boston Design Center is a must for interior design professionals. An interior designer can help you establish your design goals, formulate your budget, and create the basic structure from which your design will be realized.

Whether you want a project completed immediately, or are looking for a plan to be executed gradually over time, a designer is happy to work with you on an approach that accommodates your priorities and budgetary needs. Acting as a budget manager, the designer will help you optimize your design funds, whether it's integrating your existing furniture into a new design scheme or offering several design alternatives for a particular interior. The Innovation and Design Building is located in the Boston Marine Industrial Park (BMIP), part of the Seaport’s Innovation District nestled between downtown and South Boston.

You can also consider requesting names of former clients that you can contact for references. An interview is also the appropriate time to ask the designer how they will be compensated. As with any business transaction, it is critical that all your agreements are documented. Expect and request a contract from your chosen designer in the introductory stages of the design process. An interior designer will clarify your design or renovation plans and give you an overview of the best ways to achieve your vision.

Carnival Jubilee Voted Best New Cruise Ship of 2023

new carnival cruise line

You know we definitely see our share of coastal areas, so it’s easy to imagine how special a place it is to us. That’s why paying tribute to the magical spot where the water meets the land just feels so natural. That’s what’s going on at The Shores™, a new zone aboard Carnival Jubilee!

Sit-down dining

Carnival Celebration had people talking before they even got their first look. Even during construction, we knew where we were heading with the big plans for Carnival Jubilee! So here’s your deck-by-deck look at where to find all the fun, and all the staterooms. Enjoy old favorites or find fresh new ones aboard Carnival Jubilee™, where our chefs aim to delight any time from mealtime to snacktime to pizza-time (that’s ‘til 4 a.m.!). Carnival Paradise is now operating year-round cruises out of Tampa Bay, Fla.

Onboard Activities

Then there's the Lido Deck, which features amber, orange and lime green accents, wooden latticework, faux palm trees and vintage smokestacks that will have you thinking you magically woke up in the wrong century. Following the Mardi Gras and the Carnival Celebration, the Carnival Jubilee will become the third LNG-powered ship in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. The 183,900-ton ship will also be slightly larger, with capacity for 5,400 passengers. Originally ordered for AIDA Cruises, the Jubilee was set to be built as a sister to the AIDAnova and the AIDAcosma before being transferred to Carnival Cruise Line in 2021.

DISCOVER PARADISE IN OUR NEW EXCLUSIVE DESTINATION

Carnival Firenze will join the fleet in spring 2024 after being transferred from sister brand Costa Cruise Lines. The ship will offer a variety of cruises year-round, with sailings set for popular destinations in Baja, California and the Mexican Riviera. This ship sailed under the name Costa Firenze with Costa and is also a Vista Class ship and sister to the Costa Venezia which has already joined the Carnival fleet. The ship will feature the cruise line’s new Carnival Fun Italian Style experience, which debuts with the June 2023 arrival of Carnival Venezia in New York. Carnival Fun Italian Style incorporates Carnival’s signature high-energy environment, friendly team members and many familiar venues, plus several new, creative concepts – from Italian-themed restaurants, bars and entertainment.

This ship entered service in 2000 as the former Destiny Class ship named the Carnival Victory. In 2021, the Carnival Victory received a massive transformation that resulted in it being renamed and reclassified as a Sunshine Class ship. This ship originally entered service in 1999 as the former Destiny Class ship named the Carnival Triumph. In 2019 the Carnival Triumph received an incredible $200 million transformation that resulted in it being renamed and also reclassified as a Sunshine Class ship.

Carnival Reveals BIG New Details About Celebration Key (New Private Island)

Cabins in this section of the ship come in several configurations to suit different needs, and they include access to a dedicated lounge, allowing families to spend time together over snacks, drinks and even board games. On the final day of the cruise, more than 1,600 crew members gathered for a pep rally and group photo on the Lido Deck in matching Carnival jackets the line had specially made for the occasion. Until then, the sheer number of people required to keep a ship of Carnival Jubilee's size running smoothly hadn't fully registered. Also scheduled are events that will allow you to make your own fish, which can be seen swimming by on the screens. And, throughout each sailing, passengers will have at least one chance to see the screens pulsating along, synthesizer style, to music that will play in the Currents corridor.

Things to know about Carnival Celebration

Aft of the Lido Marketplace buffet is another pool, plus Shaq's Big Chicken. All the way forward on Deck 18 is the adults-only Serenity Deck, with a pool, two hot tubs and the Fresh Creations custom salad bar. To be fair, most of Carnival Celebration's modern updates were debuted on sister vessel Mardi Gras, which launched in 2021. Carnival Celebration is now the second ship in the fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas. It's also the biggest ship Carnival has ever sailed, along with Mardi Gras, carrying 5,282 passengers at double occupancy. The program will launch on Celebration before later being rolled out fleet-wide.

Carnival Celebration

new carnival cruise line

Another offering is the tailgate party with games, dancing and prizes, where passengers can pretend they're getting ready to cheer on the fictitious Carnival University football team. Passengers have to make their way to the lounge, which isn't next to the theater. When I sailed, I had a chance to see the full production of "Dear Future Husband," a show in which a group of singers and dancers boards a cruise ship for the wedding of two of their friends. When you're finished on Deck 7, the upper level of Currents, make your way up one more deck to The Shores, a beach- and boardwalk-centric zone that celebrates life above the sea instead of under it. There, you'll find the nautically themed Marina Bar, and the ship's deli, Beach Buns.

Celebration Central

Guests can enjoy pizza at Coastal Slice or try a sandwich or hot dog at Beach Buns. The zone also features the Marina Bar, designed with nautical inspiration and comfortable lounge seating inside or outside by the sea. Among the new venues in Currents is Dr.Inks, Ph.D, a bar adorned with eight crafty octopus arms that serves unique ocean-themed drinks, and the Golden Mermaid, a cocktail lounge that is home to a mysterious mermaid and offers live music. If you've never sailed with Carnival, you might be surprised to discover that it has some of the best sit-down dining among the big-ship lines. One of my favorite things about Carnival is that the line's ships offer a diversity of casual, included dining venues.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Viva came in a distant third, with 14.88% of the votes. The ship will depart from Southampton on an 18-day transatlantic cruise that stops in Vigo, Spain; Las Palmas and Tenerife in the Canary Islands; Funchal in Portugal and Grand Turk in the Caribbean before arriving in Texas. Carnival Jubilee will be the third of Carnival Cruise Line's Excel Class ships, similar to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, which launches later in 2022. The 5,400-passenger ship will be based in Galveston, Texas, and sail itineraries to the Western Caribbean, stopping in Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, as well as Mahogany Bay in Honduras. On most vessels, the burger counter is positioned on the Lido Deck, adjacent to the BlueIguana Cantina, which serves tacos and burritos.

The new travel-inspired neighborhood The Gateway on decks 6 and 7 midship is most noticeable for its LED "windows" that display scenes from countries around the world, depending on the evening's theme. The new train station-inspired Latitudes Bar and returning Emeril's Bistro 1397 anchor this area, with the popular pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar above. Emeril's serves Louisiana-style breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as three evening specials based on the day's international theme. For instance, we shared that the cruise line might be building a massive pool at Celebration Key after seeing a rendering that showed a swimming area far bigger than a cruise ship.

No doubt that more details about Celebration Key will come in the months ahead (it’s still more than a year until it’s open to the first visitors), but so far, it seems to offer something for everyone. While we’ve known a few interesting tidbits (opening in 2025, built on a site totaling more than 300 acres, the ability to handle two ships at once), Carnival has actually been tight-lipped about what all the new destination would include. Carnival Jubilee, the newest additional to the fleet, debuted in Galveston, Texas, in December 2023, accommodating 5,374 passengers and 1,257 crew members. It was voted Best New Cruise Ship of 2023 in Cruise Hive’s annual awards. Carnival Cruise Line currently operates three Excel vessels, including Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and, most recently, Carnival Jubilee. When she's not in New York City, she likes to spend her time at the beach or exploring new destinations and hopes to visit every country in the world.

From one day to the next you’ll find new stuff on the menu — so make sure to come back and see what surprising specialties are ready to delight you for breakfast, lunch or dinner. But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Carnival Jubilee™ are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do. Paradise Plaza features a rainbow-colored walkway through a sunshine entranceway with a 10-story “Suncastle” as a centerpiece. The welcome area is the place to book the day’s activities, including cabanas, water sports and shore excursions.

The debut of the 17-deck ship, which bears the same name as an earlier Carnival vessel launched in the late 1980s, marks the culmination of the line's 50th anniversary celebration this year. I hope you have enjoyed some of the history and tidbits about the Carnival Cruise Line fleet as we explored the newest carnival ships in the fleet. Carnival Radiance is the third ship in the Sunshine Class, along with sister ships Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Sunrise. The ship takes her name from a former Carnival cruise ship, Celebration, that was part of the Holiday class.

It can be a pain to have to venture to a different area of the ship to grab food when your friends and family are looking at other dining options closer to the pool. In their downtime, the crew was encouraged to attend the evening theater shows to cheer on the entertainment staff, who had been rehearsing diligently to fine-tune their performances. Crew members were also invited to test the vessel's top-deck activities, including the ropes course and the Bolt roller coaster. I've never had an opportunity to sail on a pre-inaugural cruise without at least a few hundred other passengers.

At night, video screens come down to serve as the high-tech animated backdrop for musical production shows featuring multiple aerialists and performers who dance in and out of passengers sitting closest to the stage. Carnival's Excel-class ships offer more cabin types than ever before, with family cabins, Havana cabins with patio swings, and all kinds of suites. I stayed in a standard balcony cabin with my family of four and was impressed by how well designed the room was to accommodate four people in a small space. Meyer Werft, renowned for constructing LNG-propelled cruise ships, will construct the new vessel. The shipbuilder has previously constructed nine cruise ships with LNG propulsion for four cruise lines in the Carnival Corporation portfolio, including AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, and Carnival Cruise Line.

The Worlds Largest Cruise Ship Will Set Sail In 2024

new big cruise ship

Two more of the ships -- Norwegian Encore and Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas -- could be back in operation as early as November. The new Carnival ship, Mardi Gras, is now set for a maiden voyage in February. In short, until the new coronavirus hit, the year was shaping up to be a particularly exciting one for big-ship lovers who always want to be on the latest-and-greatest vessels. There will also be Desserted, a milkshake bar offering both virgin and boozy options.

One of eight neighborhoods

The development of ships on the scale of Carnival Jubilee and its sisters has been a big deal for Carnival. Until recently, the line had resisted the trend among major brands to build even-bigger vessels that offer a supersized megaresort-at-sea experience. Additionally, Norwegian Viva will offer the most outdoor deck space of any new cruise ship, according to the line, including more total pool deck space than any other ship in the brand's fleet other than Norwegian Prima. At around 215,863 tons, MSC World Europa is about 4% to 8% smaller than the five Oasis-class ships. MSC World Europa is 21 decks high — three decks higher than the Oasis-class vessels.

The world's new biggest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, debuts on Saturday

It'll be home to The Grill, Silversea's signature outdoor "hot rocks" dining venue, and also double as the ship's Spaccanapoli pizza outlet. The second new venue, The Dusk Bar, will be an open-air sky bar at the back of the vessel that, like Marquee, is positioned on the port side of the ship. Vista will be the first of two sister vessels in the line's new Allura class. As for its onboard offerings, MSC Cruises is taking a page from Royal Caribbean's playbook by breaking down the public areas of MSC World Europa into districts. They include an adults-only "Zen district" and a separate "family district" that houses as many as 10 new kids facilities. There also is a central interior promenade with entertainment, shops and bars.

Royal Caribbean's next-gen cruise ship will have the largest water park to thrill all ages

In combination with their private island, Royal Caribbean thinks they have a one-two combo that will draw people to Icon like never before. Royal Caribbean calls Icon of the Seas a "white paper" ship, because it has been designed from the ground up with new concepts. At the Turku, Finland shipyard, Royal Caribbean gave a hard hat tour to travel agents to help familiarize the new ship with some of the top sellers of all things Royal Caribbean. Moreover, Icon will have a long lineup of other energy efficiency initiatives onboard, all of which help to contribute to Royal Caribbean Group's goal of introducing a net-zero ship by 2035. Star of the Seas will sail out of Port Canaveral; however, the home port for the third ship is currently unknown.

They'll measure 270 square feet and feature their own balconies, something that is relatively rare for solo cabins on ocean ships. MSC World Europa is initially sailing in the Persian Gulf out of Dubai but will reposition to the Mediterranean for the summer of 2023. Fares for seven-night sailings start at $559 per person, not including taxes and fees. The line has a second new ship, the 4,810-passenger MSC Euribia, too, which will debut later in 2023 — in June, if all goes according to plan.

Designing Thrill Island

Deck-defying attractions aren’t the only things to look forward to when you sail onboard the newest cruise ships addition to the Oasis Class. The latest ship for the luxury line Silversea Cruises will be bigger than its predecessors and feature an all-new design — one that, notably, will be asymmetrical in many areas. That is, some of the vessel's most prominent spaces, including its main pool area, will feature layouts that are off-center in a way that is unusual for cruise ships.

As of February 2024[update], there are 68 passenger ships with over 135,000 GT in service. The first ships over that size were the Voyager-class ships from Royal Caribbean Group's Royal Caribbean International (RCI). There isn’t a holiday in the world that packs more adventure into one week than Oasis Class ships – Harmony®, Allure®, Symphony®, Oasis®, Wonder® and Utopia of the Seas℠.

The 9 most exciting new cruise ships of 2023

With every berth filled, Silver Nova will sail with 728 passengers — just 132 more than the earlier vessels. Additional dining venues on board will include versions of Silversea's main signature restaurant La Terrazza, French eatery La Dame, seafood eatery Atlantide and sushi outlet Kaiseki. A creation of the deep-pocketed MSC Group, which already owns MSC Cruises, Explora Journeys plans to launch at least six superluxurious vessels by 2028, each of which is designed to hold at least 922 passengers. Virgin is going after travelers who might think themselves too cool to cruise.

When it comes to views, among the best are from the brand’s first Sunset Corner Suites and Panoramic ... There will also be a three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse complete with its own white picket fence and mailbox. For rooms with a view, the Sunset Corner Suites and Panoramic Ocean Views in AquaDome are expected to be some of the best on-board according to the cruise line. She covers history, science, travel, food and beverage, sustainability, economics and other topics.
